Note from the editor

We all live inside stories. Some come from myths and fairy tales. Some come from families, religions, schools, novels, films, political movements, and popular culture. Many are so familiar that we mistake them for reality itself. SWLB is a publication about those stories. Through essays on Myth, Women, Nature, Childhood, Work, and Family, it explores the ideas and narratives that shape how we understand ourselves and the world around us. It asks where our assumptions come from, how they endure or fade, and what we discover when we examine them more closely. The publication is less interested in telling you what to think than in helping you see familiar questions from a different angle. Its essays draw on history, literature, folklore, ecology, feminism, queer theory, philosophy, and lived experience. Some stories help us make sense of our lives. Others limit or extend what we imagine to be possible. SWLB exists to explore both.
